Hi Scotty,  Sorry, but I'm just a mongrel English women,  but I bring you this from one of your fellow countrymen ;

" You cannot run away from a weakness, you must sometimes fight it out or perish; and if that be so, why not now, and where you stand?' ------------  Robert Louis Stevenson,   Novelist, essayist and poet.

Just one of a few quotes I like that keep me fighting / sane .    Love Vanessa

Some good advise and true Vanessa,

It’s time to stand and fight … my first fight is with cigarettes, yes stopped this week and starting to feel a lot better, but as all x smokers will know, it’s when you feel better that your willpower is tested too it’s full and the chocolate was a treat, all be it a rather large one but it too will have to go if I’m to fight the fight.

Thanks you Vanessa … that is one good quote

Hi Scotty

Just wanted to say well done for giving up the cigarettes,  we've all been there and understand how hard it is, it's the best thing I have ever done, but by jove was it hard....yes it was ...but well worth it

Thanks Maureen.
Sitting at computer, with one of them plastic things you put nicotine into, you do have to inhale deep to get any kick from it but I does take the edge off.
Also cooked a really good meal last night and tonight, all good stuff as I don’t want to put weight on … saying that I did have a little bit of slip with the chocolate last night.

The mist is clearing I can see the light.

Do so know that thing about giving up the evil weed and not wanting to put weight on, but sometimes a bit of chocolate is needed just because ...............!  Will waive the need to share chocolate until you have the cigarette thing under control Wink.

Good luck and keep heading toward the light.

Are you sure I can’t tempt you to a bit of chocolate Sue ?

Seen the Doc today and after I’m weaned of the steroids I can get back to work ( week on Monday ) so in true Rocky style I’m in training.
250 on the flow meter two out of the three times my best for over a month, walking up to a mile and a half a day and stepping it up gradually.

On the medication front it looks like I’ll be on Spiriva and Mucodyne long term, just started Spiriva today, so time will tell.

At times I feel a bit of a fraud, One because I’m a lot better of health wise than some and two it was all brought on by my self, but the one thing I’m not sorry for is finding BLF it has helped a lot in the understanding of COPD

Still heading towards the light.

Scott.

Hi Scott

Well it sounds as if you are getting back on track litlle by little which is really good news.  You will get used to the various medications in time I am sure.  Taking Spiriva and Mucodyne turned my life around a lot and I have less exacerbations as a result so stick with them both.

I am glad you have found the BLF helpful and I can't thank them enough for the help and advice they gave me in the early days.

I hope the light gets brighter day by day

Em

Scotty - of course you can ........... just send it over, although can you please make it quite a big bit!!! Wink

Hope you are not going back to work too soon?  May need to ease yourself back in;  it is strange how exhausting it can be returning to work after an illness .... ask me how I know.

I am on both Spiriva (Respimat version) and Mucodyne with Symbicort thrown in for good measure.  They seem to be keeping me going, although I swear that the people who make Mucodyne are trying to get rid of me.  Does anyone else have problems with their child proof caps????  Had to put one aside this morning as could not get cap off - will have to wait for my young, handsome, strong neighbour to do the honours.  Fortunately I had another bottle - this was French version with a metal screw cap.  No need to go to the gym and work out, just try opening Mucodyne!

As for feeling a fraud, Scotty, put that right out of your mind.  As for our health, we are all at different stages and all react differently to what we have got and for another thing you did not knowingly bring it on yourself ... other conditions had to be there for the COPD to take hold.  You must know long term smokers, who do not have COPD, I most certainly do and one of them, same age as me, has just had his lungs scanned and tested and has been told that he has the lungs of someone 20 years younger - he smoked 50 / 60 a day, but has now decided to give up because of the cost.  My own personal view is that there must be something else added to the mix - the lungs must already be slightly damaged and therefore receptive to further damage from smoking.  Unfortunately the medical model does not subscribe to this view.

Don't forget to send the chocolate! Wink

A big bit of cyber chocolate is heading your way girls.

The last part of your post has triggered something that’s been niggling at the back of my head for a long time Sue
No I’m not defending smoking it’s a killer one way or the other full stop, but as far as doctors are concerned if you’re a smoker that’s what caused it, but as you say sometimes theirs more to it than that.

I'm definitely "north of the border, up Inverness way".  So that's ONE.

I don't mean to be rude but how do you cope living in such a cold place?

Just wondering as I am beginning to hate English weather and you seem to get it even worse .

Hi Paula,

It's not always as cold as people think - we do get some good days! Although there are some disadvantages living so far north, there are a lot of bonuses.  Fabulous quiet beaches which stretch for miles, quieter roads (though they're not as quiet as they used to be), outstanding scenery, friendly people etc.

I would hazard an uneducated guess that it is Lesley with the horses and dogs, I will have to check

home office records/ scottish roll- call/doomsday book/ayslum seekers/google & other various sources in order to verify Rita
