Hi, Lorien Pitlochry is closer to Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch there is Rannoch moor between Pitlochry and Loch Leven plus a few Munroes. Stopped near Loch Rannoch a few years ago so that I could go Munroe bagging and Schehallion was first on my list, being November meant there was space in the car park but the view was lost to a snow storm.

fond memories of the area,

Ian

Hi Lorien. yes it is about 40 miles south and 15 miles to the east of me and you can see it from the road as you go from Perth to Forth road bridge. was it going all Brigadoon on you?

lol, yes John!  I was sure I'd spent a Christmas and New Year in a 'log cabin' there but when it didn't show on google search... oh dear...

Thanks Dave, for showing my memory was accurate for once.

Best wishes,

Hi, Lorien both Loch Levens are up there one near kinross that John described and the other would be found by putting Kinlochleven into google map. Tried typing Brigadoon into the map search but the Bank of Scotland executives must be hiding there as it is hidden.

Ian is absolutely right and it is more likely that you stayed at Kinlochleven (Kin= Head)the head of Loch Leven its right on the west highland way and as a former member of the Mountain rescue team we would invariably end up ploutering our way accross the heather looking for walkers who had come to grief. We always thought our group was mis-named as only very rarely  did we have to rescue the mountain (fire being the exception)

I remember once carrying a woman of Ben Lomond unfortunately she had broken her ankle and was Quite near the top and fell as she was making her descent. There was only 4 of us could anwer the call so that meant we each had a corner of the stretcher all the way down with the only respite being that of rotating round the stretcher to change hands. We eventually got her down and into a waiting Ambulance.....................Three weeks later we got a letter from the Injured womans husband, It read Please find enclosed a cheque by way of thanking you for coming to the rescue of my wife who came to grief on Ben Lomond, (Our eyes widened and we all drew a deep breath as the sum of the cheque was read out ) £5.00p

We often wondered if he would have paid £10.00p if we had left her

Hi, Lorien at least you can get some sleep now that you have sorted out that it was the Kinross Loch Leven, saves having the question buzzing round ad infinitum .

Ian, I woke up this morning with computer buzzing away - I must have been so relieved at finding my memory was accurate that I promptly fell asleep!  Unfortunately, I can't remember whether that was before the end of the Suspicions of Mr Whicher or after...

Hi, Lorien the good news from that is you would be able to watch it again and probably get half way through before remembering how much you had watched, every cloud has a silver lining allegedly .

all the best,

Hi, John the £5 could be taken as an insult but was probably the best that could be hoped for from somebody that did not understand how to stay safe on the mountains or know what efforts were involved in recovering somebody.

Hi, David and welcome to the forum it can be scary after diagnosis , getting over the shock before you can start doing things to help yourself. Taking things one step at a time and absorbing information at your own rate, rather than being swamped with more than you can take in and things which are just not relevant to you.

So if you check there is probably a Breathe Easy group near you and talking with people in similar situations to your self may be helpful to you.

hope this helps and talk with us if we can help,

Hi, David not sure what is available in Scotland but the people who provided the physiotherapist input to pulmonary rehabilitation did the same for cardio rehabilitation so asking your heart doctors what is available may be helpful for you.

Scotland’s shame over respiratory strategy
17 May 2011

The new Scottish Government must act quickly to stop the country lagging behind the rest of the UK when it comes to planning respiratory care, according to Asthma UK Scotland.

The charity made the call at the launch in Edinburgh today (10 May) of the updated Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network/ British Thoracic Society’s British Guideline on the Management of Asthma.

Gordon Brown, Asthma UK Scotland’s National Director says: ‘England, Wales and Northern Ireland have all developed, or are developing, respiratory strategies and it is shameful Scotland has repeatedly rejected the idea.

‘A national strategy would bring together examples of best practice from across Scotland and end the “postcode lottery” of care that currently exists. It would standardise treatment across Scotland, ensuring that primary and secondary care are linked more effectively, that self-management becomes the norm for treatment for asthma and that clear and consistent standards are set for treatment.

‘We do different things very well in different parts of Scotland.  We would like to see that excellence available consistently across the country and we look forward to working with the new Scottish Government to ensure this happens.’
