Hi,

Just a small idea to run past you all.What do you think about including an instant messaging system to the forum where the people logged in can communicate with one another without having to constanly refresh the pages within the forums waiting for their posts to appear.

Hi Chris, Yes I do agree with you isn't it called networking. I know Micro live do it through their messanger; there again sometimes it get to be a bit of a pain. I wouldn't say that about it on here but I will sign in on mine then I have the same person on all the time it can get annoying. Just say that I am E-Mailing you or doing some work he is there I know I can sign off that would sound has though you were falling out with that person. Chris though it could be something to chew over. Sometimes I feel as though the only people I'd like to keep talking to  would possibly be a MP whilst I was Stranggling him. look after yourself and enjoy the rest of the Bankholiday. Geof the Miner

I like the strangling thing its sounds like the way forward Big Smile.

An instant messenger is actually built into the website coding and appears all the time on the website for whoever is logged in to use,they are always good for a quick hello or a bit of banter.

Hi

No its not like private messaging,its a certain portion of the web page designed purely as a messaging board for all online users to interact with one another at the same time.Hope this helps.

Took my dog for a little walk before and had to tidy the garden a bit ready for a delivery this week of timber for my extension roof,it was a flat roof but I'm about to turn it into a pitched roof.

Its my last joinery project before I hang up my hammer an nail bag for good,will miss it dearly but I'm just not physically upto it any more.Will continue to do little things around the house as and when needed though just to keep me sane IndifferentBig Smile

there is a private message function - annoyingly its called `conversations` but it will allow private messages to be sent.

unfortunately it wont provide a popup or some other visual notification - other than that there is no online chatting function at the moment - we are at the mercy of the developers im afraid.

 

any more technical questions please direct at me or alistair as thats our forte :)

Thank you very much, I wondered what that meant, I have conversation 1 I was scared to click on it incase any lady wanted me for maintenence from my younger days because I can't remember that far back. Thought conversations were pms or private messages - that's what they were called before the update, I think?

Chris - are you thinking about some kind of chat room?  Can log on and see who is there etc or arrange to be  online at a certain time?

If so, dear Moderators, is there some kind of facility on this site to provide that sort of service?

Being thoroughly technical myself, I wouldn't have a clue.

Its not really a chat room many people refer to it as a shout box,its just a means of communicating with other people who are on the forum at the same time as yourself.I've added a link in this post to give you all some idea of what it actually is.Moderators you also download the code for adding it to the website from this link not saying that its what your going to do but always a good conversation piece next time your having a meeting to decide which way this forum is going to progress in.

Thanks Chris - there are no plans to add such a function at this stage. We want to keep all the stuff happening on the forums and not in a chatbox, plus we are not confident that `shoutbox` would integrate easily with the forum system we have - it would be easy for the hosts/developers to blame issues on the 3rd party code we would have to install. Safer for all if we stick to what we know works at this stage. It may be that the next version of the forums contains such functionallity - in which case of course we would reconsider - but currently this is what we have to work with.

Nothing stopping you all to organise one yourselves - just dont desert us here @ BLF forums we like having you all onboard !!  Smile Yes Beer

Hi June sorry for the lay off, you have to be friends to have a conversation with someone I have been trying to get you has a friend but you refuse to be my friend so I have been sulking big style. When you select someone has a friend it does come up at the side of your friends name, Do you want a coversation.

Sorry to interrupt your love in with June, but think that you can have conversations or private messaging without being designated friends.  

Could a mod please confirm or otherwise - then Geof can get back to persuading June just to be his friend!!!Big Smile

Sue, I think you are great to. all the comments on all my post I mention that everyone on here are friends and you see the wrong one. Sue when I looked at conversations it seemed to work with friends. Someone from the BLF Helpline wanted to talk to see if she could help when I had my glip and I believe that I had to accept her has a friend. If you look on another post you will see where I ask if the trial group can be excepted on the conversation so we can stll respond to each other rather than get lost in the others. Anyway Sue I believe that I could be falling xx xxxx I was always weak to a strong woman. keep happr Sue. Geof the Miner. Wink
