I read an interesting article the other day about salt caves and how they can help people with, amongst others, respiratory diseases - asthma and bronchitis in particular.  Have no idea of the efficacy of them and do not even know anyone who has been treated, although have been aware for some time that this treatment has been used in Eastern Europe.

There are a couple of caves in the UK - manufactured ones, not real ones - and if you are curious or interested, suggest you google salt cave and see what you think.   It caught my eye and I have to admit I am interested, in fact I am thinking of a visit just to test it out as I do have an asthma component to my other problems.

This is no doubt extremely obvious, but please note this is a personal observation and in no way reflects the views or opinions of the BLF, nor is it supported by them.

I think thats  where they got the idea for those 'salt pipes' from, I remember DR Chris talking about them on GMTV about a year ago, think he uses one for asthma.  In fact if I remember rightly he did a you tube about it.

Hi Chris,

Forgot to mention that you can bring your own fish and chips and they will provide the vinegar and salt!!!!!

I am sure they will lay coffee and / or tea on as well - will have a word with them.

Hi Vanessa

Do now vaguely remember the salt pipes and have also since heard that you can get salt capsules for a nebuliser if things are particularly bad and hard to shift.  Sounds as if there may be something in it.

All I have to do is get me to London.

It also helps if you read the article, whichdeals with the topic of consumption / absorption of salt in the body!

Well Sue,I think it would be a good idea if they throw the fish and chips in too,I wouldn't mind bunging an extra couple of quid in.Now why can't I get the link up here?

Tell you what though,I feel a question coming on for the Helpline seeing as I don't get to see my consultant again until July and to be honest,I don't think my GP would have a clue but will ask his advice about it on Friday when I see him.

Maybe the helpline thread can aid us with some info on Saltcaves and COPD.There's no mention of it in the website though.

Ok I've now found it on the website Embarrassed

Take care

Hi Chris,

I am seeing my consultant next month and my Greek Doc early May, so may have a word with them and will let you know what they say;  more interested in what my Greek doc may say  as he has a very open mind and it is thanks to him that I am as well and as stable as I am.

What say you to a fish and chip party in the salt cave -  bring your own vinegar?  There are special facilities for children - so a family day out?

Sue
