hi brian, i can certainly sympathise with you as i have developed the same problem.  Going by what my E @ N specialist told me it seems to be a common problem with bronchiectasis,  he told me there was no cure and gave me advice what to  try to relieve the problem plus sprays and antibiotics etc, none of these helped at all. i myself am ok during the day its the night time it affects me , as soon as i lie down  i get a blocked nose this causes me a terrible head and if i do manage to sleep i have the feeling of a large hangover when i wake up, i have to prop myself up at night as this does help a bit, if i do get desperate i use a decongestant spray or nose drops but these should not be used often if you can help it.

sorry i could not be of much help and if you do find a solution please let me know,

                                                                  bye for now  sylvia.

Hi brianross,

Welcome to the BLF Forums.

I also suffer sinusitis regularly but that's due to nasal polyps.Apparently it's common in copd patients.Sounds like you have the long term version where mine is just on and off, that. All that aside though,it's not a pleasant experience.

Take care

Hi

Im 25 and have bronchiectasis and chronic sinusitus too, mine constantly drips down the back of my throat in the day which i can deal with but im the same as sylvia at night and wake up in the mornings like i have been drugged!! its awful, im now 36 weeks pregnant and it has got 10 times worse, its even keeping my husband awake at night now as he says i sound like darth vader lol i also find my nose makes a funny clicking noise when i lie down too..not sure why?? i have got the nasonex nose spray which i find helps my nose to a certain extent but then this drips down onto my chest and can make me chesty

Does anyone know if there is an operation we could have to fix the problem??

Hi fellow sufferer,

The operation is called FESS* but my GP is very reluctant to send me for it . I think it is considered a bit of a last resort and is more useful for people with nasal polyps.I think we are supposed to stuggle on with the nasal steroids and antibiotics. The worst time is definitely in the morning and having to get up earlier in order to feel human before going to work. I also use nasal irrigation which does give some relief you can make the solution yourself with salt. The other thing you need is called a netti pot which you can buy online and is used to administer solution.

Hi Brian,

I had FESS done,it was great, for the 1st time in years I could smell and taste again and not forgetting,I could actually breathe through my nose Wink.Problem was, polyps being polyps, they came back again.

As with you Lisa,Nasonex for life Tongue Tied.Horrible stuff makes me gag every time I use it.

Take care

Chris

Hello there!

Not sure if this is still relevent to you - I have just joined the chatroom and noticed this was posted some time ago but, thought I'd  reply anyway!

I have bronchiectasis and perenial rhinitus - think this and sinitus are along the same lines with constant blocked and runny nose - all day and all night, all year round and can't go anywhere without huge supply of tiisues!  It's like having a permanent heavy cold, with lots of pressure and aches around face and head - does this sound familiar?

My respiratory consultant has told me that these two conditions go hand in hand - and that rhinitus is also linked with my severe brittle asthma - that is allergy as well as infection based.  He recommended that I take nasal steriod spray (Nasonex) daily along with sinus rinsing twice per day and he recommended a fantastic one called Neilmed that you can pick up in any larger Boots store.  You get the squeezy bottle, with a pressure thingy in it to make sure the flow of water doesn't vary as you rinse, along with 60 sachets of special salt, all you have to do is use cooled boiled water along with a sachet twice daily.

It's made a huge diffrerence to me, my nasal spray can at last reach where it should be going after nasal rinsing !  And I can breathe through my nose again - for the first time in ages, and don't need to carry tissues everywhere!!

I must admit, the thought of nasal rinsing made me shudder but it really is simple and not very uncomfortable at all (you get the same sensation in your nose as you do when you jump in a swimming pool and the water goes up it) I'd much prefer to keep rinsing than to go back to being sooooo blocked and uncomfortable!

Hopefully by now you have got it sorted but, if not, consider giving Neilmed a go, I hope it gives you as much relief as it has me!

I used SinuSoothe which is a completely natural nasal spray and my chronic sinusitis is much better. I no longer suffer from fatigue or dizziness and i would recommend it to anybody.

I have had less trouble with my bronchiectasis since I had sinus surgery were my ENT placed windows in my sinus.  Since I have less sinus infections I have less lung infections.  I started out with lungs problems as a child and don't know when it turned into bronchiectasis but I was diagnosis when I was 28 years.
