Hi Jerry,

Welcome to the BLF Forums, please feel free to introduce yourself here: 225.aspx Yes

I was also in the building trade so I know exactly where you're coming from.Unfortunately the dust and cold damp conditions of your trade are not recommended environments for any Lung disease I'm afraid.Staying away from others who have colds or infections is also highly recommended.

As for the anti-biotics there's only one real way to know which is the correct one and that's done via a sputum test to see which bugs are throwing their latest party.Your GP will of course prescribe an anti-biotic until such time as the sputum test results land on his desk, then he'll be in touch if a change of anti-biotic is needed.

Are you seeing a consultant at your local hospital? He would be able to look into this back pain that you have in more depth.I don't mean to scare here but my GP from many years ago missed the fact that I'd suffered many episodes of a collapsed lung, saying that though the pain from a collapsed lung is very intense and not something that a GP of this era would easily miss.

The BLF Helpline would be able to send out all the relevant info with regards to your condition. There are many things in this info that they recommend you avoid and also lots of other useful hints and tips.

We have many other members with your condition and I'm sure you'll find their input extremely helpful.

Take care

Chris
